Village roads flooded after 'torrential' downpours
Roads near a brook in a village in Derbyshire flooded after heavy rain overnight.
Photos and video footage show Main Street in Hilton flooded near Hilton Brook on Thursday night.
The Environment Agency issued a warning that flooding was possible on Thursday on low-lying land and roads next to the brook.
Christopher Bishop, who has lived in the village for about 15 years, said the rain was "torrential" and he had "never seen it like that for probably 20 odd years".
"We're quite lucky because we live around the corner, so we weren't physically affected - but our road was still like a river last night," he told the BBC.
There were reports some homes and pubs in the village had experienced flooding as a result of the wet weather.
In a social media post shared at 23:30 BST on Thursday, Derbyshire Police advised people to "only drive if necessary" due to the weather conditions and to check local authority websites for information on the latest road closures.
Jason Van Gellecum, who has been landlord of the Old Talbot pub in Hilton for five months, described the downpour on Thursday night as "biblical".
"We had water coming in through the front door and then next thing I know the car park was flooded so we had water coming in through the back door as well," he added.
The landlord said regulars at the pub on Main Street had mentioned to him about the pub flooding before, but said they had never seen it so bad.
Van Gellecum said the pub served customers during the flood.
"The tills were still working, the pumps were still pumping, people in here didn't seem all that phased by it - they just waded through the puddle up to the bar and got the next pint in," he said.
