Headstones were tipped over by vandals who broke into a cemetery in Nottinghamshire.

Hannah Park Cemetery in Worksop was targeted between 20:00 BST on Thursday and 07:00 on Friday, said Bassetlaw District Council.

Six memorial stones were pushed over, ornaments and floral displays were damaged, and roof tiles were ripped from the toilet block.

The council said Nottinghamshire Police was investigating the vandalism.

It added the headstones had been temporarily secured back in position and relatives of the affected graves were being contacted.

Councillor Darrell Pulk said: "This is a shocking spate of vandalism in a place that should be respected and immune to any form of vandalism.

"This is the first time I have seen outrageous damage on this scale in a cemetery and ask that if anyone has any information about the identity of whoever caused the damage, please report this."
