A woman in her 70s has been taken to hospital after a car crash involving a marked police car.

Wiltshire Police said the incident happened on the A350 near Chippenham at 12:05 BST on Wednesday and involved the police car and a black Mini Cooper on the northbound side carriageway between the Malmesbury roundabout and the M4.

The woman, the only passenger in the mini, was taken to hospital while the driver, a man in his 70s, was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Wiltshire Police said the officer in the marked vehicle was responding to an incident at the time of the collision, which has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. He was also treated by paramedics at the scene.

The woman's injuries are not believed to be life threatening or life changing, the force added.
