Two members of the armed forces have been arrested after a report of a sexual assault on a teenager at a British Army base in North Yorkshire.

The Ministry of Defence said the investigation followed the alleged assault on a boy aged under 18 at Catterick Garrison.

A spokesperson for the government's Defence Serious Crime Command (DSCC) said: "Two members of the armed forces have been arrested following an investigation by the Defence Serious Crime Command.

"As the matter is subject to an ongoing investigation, we will not comment further."

The DSCC is the strategic command headquarters for the Defence Serious Crime Unit (DSCU) - an independent, professional, and global service police force.

According to the government's website, it is responsible for overseeing the investigation of the most serious criminal offences involving the UK Armed Forces, both in the UK and abroad.
