Further arrests after homes evacuated in search

Police have arrested two more people following the evacuation of homes in High Green, Sheffield.

Nearby residents were told to leave on Tuesday while Army bomb disposal experts and police searched a property in Mapplebeck Road, where they recovered suspected chemicals, drugs and weapons.

Rachel Hale, 35 and of Mapplebeck Road, was charged with an offence under the Explosive Substances Act 1883 and remanded in custody at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Earlier, South Yorkshire Police said officers had arrested a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s under the Explosive Substances Act and on suspicion of drug offences. Both have since been bailed pending further inquiries.

Det Ch Insp Aneela Khalil-Khan, who is leading the investigation, said: "While one suspect has been charged and two more have been questioned, our investigation is very much ongoing.

"While we are aware of the public and media interest in this operation, we are limited in what we can say due to the active court proceedings."

The officer said the search at the house in Mapplebeck Road, led by the Army's Explosive Ordnance Team, concluded on Wednesday.

Police said there was no longer a risk to nearby properties or people.
