A man in his 40s died after he was hit by an HGV in Essex.

Police were called to Progress Road in Leigh-on-Sea following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian at midday on Wednesday.

A stretch of the A127 was closed for about seven hours while officers from the serious collision unit carried out an investigation.

The driver of the lorry has not been arrested, Essex Police said.

The force urged witnesses to get in contact and asked residents to check CCTV footage.
