A seawater lido has been named in a list of 25 standout projects to mark 50 years of The Architectural Heritage Fund.

The charity, which promotes the conservation and sustainable re-use of historic buildings, said the projects range from medieval stone forts and Victorian courthouses to industrial potteries.

Cornwall's Grade II listed art deco Jubilee Pool in Penzance is included in the list.

The fund said it had provided its "largest-ever" heritage impact loan of £850,000 towards a geothermal heating project at the facility - the first of its kind in the UK – to enable year-round swimming.

The Jubilee Pool was badly damaged in storms that hit the South West in January and February 2014.

The heritage fund said a community benefit society took over the lido's management and launched the "innovative and sustainable" geothermal heating project.

Chief executive of the fund, Matthew Mckeague, said: "For 50 years, the AHF has worked alongside communities to give new life to historic buildings and to ensure that heritage remains at the heart of regeneration."
