Severn Trent said it was investigating the brook's "milky appearance"

A water company has launched an investigation into what caused a brook in Leicestershire to take on a "milky appearance".

Concerns were raised on social media last week after residents spotted what appeared to be a white liquid flowing from a pipe beneath Oakcroft Avenue Bridge, towards Kirby Muxloe Castle at Kirby Brook.

Severn Trent said it had been working with the Environment Agency since Thursday.

The water firm said it believed a "third party incorrectly connected or discharged into our network, that caused a milky appearance in the brook".

"We are continuing to work with the Environment Agency to help locate where it has come from to prevent it from happening again," a Severn Trent spokesperson added.

The water company said its network in the area was operating as normal.

An Environment Agency spokesperson added: "Officers attended the incident swiftly and are investigating the nature and location of any pollution."

They said people should report any further incidents to the agency.
