Driver's 'lucky escape' after car ends up in river

Emergency services said there were no casualties

A driver whose car was recovered from a river had a "lucky escape", Cambridgeshire police said.

The force was called to a single-vehicle collision on French Drove, near Thorney, at 06:30 BST on Tuesday.

Officers closed the road after the vehicle ended up in the New South Eau and wrote in a social media post: "Thankfully, the driver was able to get out of the vehicle and climb to safety before emergency services arrived."

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said crews attended and that there were no casualties.

Police said it was called to French Drove, near Thorney, on Tuesday morning

Police said recovery work was carried out to safely remove the vehicle from the river and no arrests were made.

It issued advice for drivers to take extra care on rural roads.
