Terror charge for teen accused of attempted murder

An 18-year-old woman accused of attempted murder has been charged with a terrorism offence.

Alina Burns, of Lynton Road, Bristol, was arrested on 2 August after a 27-year-old man suffered minor injuries during an assault in Bedminster, Bristol.

Miss Burns appeared before the Old Bailey in London via video link earlier, charged with six offences, including engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts, attempting to murder Mohammed Mahmoodi and attempting to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Justice Cheema-Grubb listed the case for trial on 9 March next year, with a plea and trial preparation hearing on 16 January. Miss Burns was told she would remain in custody.

Miss Burns also faces three charges of having an article with a blade or point without good reason, relating to the alleged possession of an axe, scalpel and two darts on East Street, Bedminster, on 2 August.

The incident was initially investigated by Avon and Somerset Police before being taken over by Counter Terrorism Policing South West.

During the court appearance, Miss Burns spoke only to confirm her name and that she understood the judge, and was not asked to enter any pleas.
