Fourteen motorists have been caught speeding during a police operation on a major county route, with one driver recorded travelling at 109mph.

Warwickshire Police officers carried out enforcement checks on the A46 near Kenilworth on Sunday as part of Operation Spotlight, targeting the "Fatal Four" causes of serious road collisions.

They include speeding, drink and drug driving, failing to wear a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving.

Police said the stretch of road had been the scene of several serious injury and fatal collisions in recent months and remains one of the county's busiest roads.

In a post on social media, Warwickshire Police said the enforcement activity was aimed at improving road safety on a route that has seen a number of serious incidents.

Drivers caught speeding could face penalties including fines, penalty points or prosecution, depending on the severity of the offence.

The force said it would continue carrying out proactive operations as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the county's roads.
