Shops closed in illegal vape and tobacco crackdown
Nottingham City CouncilFour vape shops in Nottingham have been closed as part of a crackdown on illegal tobacco and vape sales.
The closure orders were granted following work between Nottingham City Council Trading Standards and the public health team, and Nottinghamshire Police.
Investigations found evidence of criminal activity linked to the stores, and the orders will now prohibit access to the premises for three months.
Nottingham City Council confirmed Lovely Shop in Lenton Boulevard, Smoke Vapes & Shisha in Alfreton Road, Vape Plus, Beechdale Road, and Victoria Mix in Mansfield Road have all been closed.
Helen Kalsi, executive member for adult social care and health at the council, said: "These closure orders are a welcome demonstration of what can be achieved when organisations work together to tackle this kind of illegal activity and protect our communities.
"The sale of illegal tobacco and vapes fuels organised crime, undermines legitimate local businesses and exposes people to products that do not meet safety standards."
A total of eight shops have now been closed since April under the partnership.
PC Dylan Scally, of Nottinghamshire Police, added: "Working alongside Trading Standards and Public Health allows us to take decisive action against premises involved in criminality.
"These closures help protect local communities, disrupt those involved in illegal trading and demonstrate that partners across Nottingham are committed to tackling this issue together."
