Man appears in court charged with rape of woman

A 35-year-old man has appeared in court with rape after a woman was allegedly attacked in the Hyde Park area of Leeds on Thursday.

Uvesh Vahora appeared before Leeds Magistrates' Court on Monday.

No pleas were entered and Vahora, of Autumn Avenue in Leeds, was told he would next appear before Leeds Crown Court on 11 May. He was remanded in custody untl that date.

Police said the incident reportedly happened at around 22:00 BST on Autumn Avenue.

The victim had been walking to a nearby shop at the time, officers added.
