A man who was jailed for life for murdering a former colleague by shooting him on a remote path in Perthshire has failed to overturn his conviction.

David Campbell, 77, was jailed for a minimum of 19 years in February for killing Brian Low on Leafy Lane, Aberfeldy, in 2024.

Police treated Low's death as "non-suspicious" until a forensic examination days later revealed the 65-year-old retired groundsman had been shot.

The Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service said Campbell's appeal was refused at second sift - a legal process where a senior judge or sheriff decides whether or not to grant permission for an appeal to proceed.

Former gamekeeper Campbell was found guilty at the High Court in Glasgow after a 15-day trial.

The jury delivered a non-unanimous verdict after three days of deliberations.

Judge Lord Scott told Campbell his "targeted assassination" had been "an appalling and senseless act of extreme wickedness".

He added that "serious errors" in the early stages of the police inquiry may have led Campbell to believe "you thought you got away with murder".
