Two main roads in a town centre have been closed as firefighters tackle a blaze in a derelict building.

Crews were called to the fire at a building in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, at 05:25 BST on Friday, Staffordshire Police said.

High Street and Roundwell Street were closed due to the fire, a spokesperson confirmed, and people were urged to avoid the area.

"Due to the nature of this fire, we advise people in the vicinity to keep doors and windows closed," they added.

High Street remained closed on Friday afternoon while firefighters worked to dampen down any remaining hot spots, and could potentially be shut for a number of days, according to officers on scene.
