A section of the M66 has reopened after traffic was halted across much of Tuesday following a lorry crash.

No one was hurt when the vehicle hit the central reservation at about 07:15 BST between junction one at Ramsbottom and two at Bury.

National Highways said repairs had been completed and the southbound section of the motorway had fully reopened as of about 16:00.

Drivers had previously been told the disruption could last until about 17:15.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to reports of a "jack-knifed" lorry.

Lane two on the northbound carriageway was closed after "significant damage" to the central reservation, National Highways said, with debris reported across several lanes.

It said the lorry had a trailer attached that was carrying a roller machine.

Jack-knifing is when large vehicle with a trailer loses traction and skids, causing the trailer to swing around and push the cab out, forming a V shape.
