Two people have died following a crash in Rotherham

Two people have died after a car crashed into a lamppost in Rotherham.

The crash took place on East Bawtry Road just after 18:40 BST on Saturday, a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

The car, a white BMW 3 Series, was believed to have been travelling with a second vehicle, a blue BMW 4 Series, before it left the carriageway heading towards Worrygoose roundabout and crashed.

Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed.

The occupants of the 3 Series, who have yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

A force spokesperson asked witnesses, or anyone with information about the crash, to get in touch.
