Band records song that lasts less than a second

A Guernsey band believe their newly released tune Don't let the fire go out, which is under a second long, could be the shortest song in the world.

Coastal Fire Department have made an unofficial attempt to beat the world record set by Napalm Deaths' You Suffer, which was 1.316 seconds long.

Band member Ollie Goddard said he contacted Guinness World Records and was but told the category had been closed after it had been "inundated by requests".

He said the song was "just a bit of fun" and despite being less than a second long still contained lyrics, a cord change, and all three band members.

Goddard said the band were writing and recording their album, with a lot of the songs coming in at about 01:20 and 01:40 in length.

"We knew there was an official world record and we thought can we go under a second - that's what we have done for a bit of a laugh.

"It's unofficially the shortest song... certainly the shortest song ever released on the Channel Islands."

He said any proceeds made from the track would go to the animal charity, The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Goddard said he wrote the song two years ago and had sat on it ever since.

He hoped the song would be a reminder to everyone that "If you have hobbies, don't let the fire go out for that".

"Keep doing those things that make you happy," said Goddard.

"It's good to have fun, if we've contributed in anyone having a smile, we have done our job."
