New 20mph speed limits introduced in two villages
Press AssociationSpeed limits have been reduced in two Fenland villages.
The new 20mph restrictions affect Begdale Road and Gosmoor Lane in Elm, as well as Maltmas Drove and Well End in Friday Bridge, Cambridgeshire.
Road markings and signs were installed this week to reflect the changes, with the limit becoming enforceable once they were in place.
A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesperson said: "The changes have been made in response to concerns raised locally and are intended to encourage lower vehicle speeds in residential areas."
"We are committed to improving road safety and creating safer, healthier communities, and 20mph schemes are one part of this approach," they added.
A proposal for the speed reduction was submitted by Elm Parish Council to the county council's Funding Initiative Programme earlier this year.
