Woman to be reunited with 'much-loved' dog's ashes which lay in lost property for months

A bereaved pet owner will be reunited with her "much-loved" dog's ashes after they lay in ScotRail's lost property for months.

The woman had accidentally left the unusual urn, which was wrapped in the arms of a teddy bear, on a train when she got off the LNER service in Edinburgh in May. The train continued on to Aberdeen where the urn was handed to station staff.

British Transport Police (BTP) recently issued an appeal for the owner - fearing that the urn contained human remains.

Officers said the woman had now contacted them - clarifying the urn contained the remains of her family pet. They are making arrangements to return the urn and the teddy - which the woman has owned since childhood.

Earlier this month BTP released an image of the small, red urn on social media.

It was wrapped in artificial purple and white flowers with golden ribbon tied around the top.

It is understood the woman had travelled to Edinburgh on a service from London Kings Cross.

A BTP spokesperson said: "We would like to thank everyone for sharing our appeal".
