CCTV footage appeared to show a man taking sausages from a fridge and putting them down his trousers.

A man who allegedly stuffed packs of sausages down the front of his trousers at a petrol station shop has been charged with theft.

Dubbed the "Sausage Smuggler", Thames Valley Police said CCTV showed packs of sausages being concealed down a man's trousers before he left without paying for the bangers.

The man is accused of rifling through the sausage shelf four times at the BP in Newbury, returning weekly at first and then twice within four days, with the total value of stolen meat reaching nearly £600.

The force said a 30-year-old man charged with four counts of shoplifting was due to appear at Slough Magistrates' Court on 5 November.
