Shoe maker submits plans for derelict site
Kris Holland/BBCPlans have been submitted for a new shoe factory on a derelict site by an established Northampton company.
The proposal from John Lobb & Company Ltd would see a new workshop built behind, and attached to, the vacant Horizon House, near the St Peter's Way roundabout.
The factory would be used for shoe production and storage, with new staff facilities, a showroom and small shop.
The vacant building was built in 1896 and was previously used as offices by the former Northampton Gas Company.
However, it has not been occupied for many years and has since fallen into a state of disrepair.
A West Northamptonshire Council report previously described the property as an "important industrial heritage landmark".
The development would also include changes to the road and site access, new car and cycle parking, a service yard, landscaping, new boundary treatments and external lighting.
It also said the benefits of the proposed development would include the creation of more than 120 jobs.
A decision on the planning application is expected on 18 November.
John Lobb founded the company in the mid-19th Century.
