A statue dedicated to The Beatles' former manager in Liverpool city centre is to be removed temporarily for essential repairs.

Hundreds of people gathered back in 2022 for the unveiling of the monument dedicated to the late Brian Epstein.

Epstein, often referred to as the fifth member of the group, became The Beatles' manager in 1961 after seeing them play in the Cavern Club.

The statue was sculpted by Andy Edwards, also responsible for The Fab Four statue of John, Paul, George and Ringo at Liverpool's Pier Head.

Liverpool Business Improvement District (BID) Company, which helped fund the piece, has confirmed it has been temporarily moved from its location on Whitechapel and will be returned as soon as the repairs have been completed, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The statue, installed during International Beatleweek four years ago, stands at the corner of Button Street.

Born in Liverpool in 1934, Epstein also played a key role in the city's wider music scene, which included acts such as Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cilla Black, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, The Moody Blues and The Chants.

BID said: "We understand the importance of the statue to the city and will continue to share updates."
