A police station has been closed and a man charged after its glass front entrance was smashed in the early hours of the morning.

Suffolk Police said a 36-year-old was taken into custody on suspicion of criminal damage at about 02:05 BST after the alleged attack at its station on Princes Street in Ipswich.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and later charged. He is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on 19 October.

The force said the doors had since been repaired and the station would reopen at 09:00 on Saturday.
