Council celebrates 10 years of link road

A council has celebrated the 10th anniversary of £16m link road in Worcestershire.

The Hoobrook Link Road, which connects the A451 Stourport Road and the A442 Worcester Road, opened on 19 September 2016 in Kidderminster to ease congestion and improve journey reliability.

Worcestershire County Council said that over the past decade, the road has reduced pressure on surrounding roads and junctions, while providing wildlife corridors and regenerating a coppice woodland.

"It's a scheme that continues to deliver benefits for local communities and businesses," councillor Tom Wells added.

Bat and bird boxes were featured in the scheme along with badger tunnels and a kingfisher nesting tunnel to enhance local wildlife.

Wells said that the link road showed how infrastructure could have a "positive and lasting impact" on its surrounding environment.
