Three options will be on the table for proposed cuts to library services in Devon

Three options are on the table regarding proposed controversial cuts to library services in Devon.

The original proposal to reduce total staffed hours by about 30% is still a possibility.

Devon County Council will also look at reducing weekly opening hours by 10% and a third option of leaving opening hours as they are.

The council's cabinet is due to make a decision on 20 May following a major public consultation which attracted more than 25,000 participants.

Devon County Council announced in 2025 it was considering cuts to opening hours, getting more volunteers involved in running libraries and allowing access to libraries without staff present.

A council report said there had been opposition by library users across the county to reducing staffed hours with concerns it would "undermine the role of libraries as safe community spaces".
