Three teenagers were jailed after Mohanad Abdullaahi Goobe was killed

The mother of a teenage boy who was stabbed to death has said she pities her son's killers.

Three teenagers were jailed at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday after being found guilty of killing 15-year-old Mohanad Abdullaahi Goobe in a "horrific" knife attack in Moss Side, in September.

Two of the boys, ages 15 and 16 , were jailed for 18 years and 19 years, respectively, for murder. And a 14-year-old boy who was found guilty of manslaughter has been jailed for a fixed prison term of six years.

In a statement read in court, Mohanad's mother Amaley Ahmed spoke out about knife crime and addressed her feelings on her son's killers.

"I feel many emotions - including anger, for the boys responsible for my son's death.

"But I also feel pity, for they too will have to live with the consequences of what they have done.

"I hope they see Mohanad's face for the rest of their lives."

Mohanad was found with stab wounds about 16:30 BST, after police and paramedics were first called to reports of a disturbance involving "a number of people".

The 15-year-old died of his injuries later that evening.

"I cannot begin to describe how Mohanad's death has made us feel," Amaly said.

"Words are not adequate, but I see this pain reflected in the faces of my husband and children on a daily basis.

"Our home is now silent - no longer do we hear his laughter or his jokes.

"Mohanad had every opportunity, his whole life ahead of him, his future was taken away from him, so cruelly, and by the actions of other children."

'Not another statistic'

"I want people hearing this statement to understand that Mohanad was taken from us without a thought for the consequences," Amaly said. "His death should never have happened."

"Mohanad was the centre of our family," she added. "A typical teenager, who loved hanging out with his friends and spending far too long on his gaming station.

"He wasn't in a gang, and he had never been in trouble with the police.

"A fallout between a group of boys resulted in Mohanad losing his life.

"Why has it become the norm for our youths of today to think it is cool to carry knives?

"Knife crime, sadly, is becoming prevalent among our children.

"While this is becoming acceptable, all our children's lives are at risk, and as a family, we are living with the consequences.

"The death of my son should not just be another statistic.

"Mohanad was a living breathing, larger-than-life, lovable, sometimes cheeky, 15-year-old boy, whose life ended when another child made a choice, to take a knife out with them, and chose to use that knife on my son.

"A choice that killed my son, and ended our lives as we knew it."
