Community steps in to repair vandalised bike shed

Members of the community have stepped in to fix a shed for free-to-use balance bikes after it was vandalised.

Guernsey's Health Improvement Commission said it was "saddened" to find the doors of the shed it has at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre had been broken and one of the bikes had been stolen.

It added tyres on two other of the bikes, used by children who were learning to ride, had been let down and pens provided for users to tick a sheet to monitor usage had also been taken.

A Facebook post from the charity said it was seeking someone to help repair the doors - Sam Nicholls and his dad responded and hope to complete the job soon.

The charity said the two men had been down with a bike pump and some tools and are "now going to try and fix it up".

Sam Nicholls said: "My dad popped down yesterday to take a look and he suggested repairing the doors with metal strap hinges as a more permanent solution. It should make them much more secure."

He added they will carry out the repairs "as soon as I can find a couple of spare hours".

"We hope at least some of these occurrences are accidental as we really want to be in a position to keep the initiative running over summer," the commission added.
