School extension plans as admission numbers soar
GoogleTwo Wolverhampton schools have sought the council's permission to extend their buildings to cope with rising demand.
The Amethyst Academies Trust, which runs Moreton School on Old Fallings Lane, Bushbury, submitted proposals to the City of Wolverhampton Council for a single-storey extension to make way for three new classrooms, an IT room and a gym.
The plan would create space for an 150 extra pupils due to increased admission numbers, the trust said.
Permission to extend the sports hall of Aldersley High School on Barnhurst Lane, which is also run by the trust, to create a smaller hall, classroom and office, has also been requested.
GoogleIt comes after the local authority revealed it would be spending more than £2m creating 200 new pupil places at four schools across the city.
A total of 90 new places would be created at Moreton School, including an additional year 7 bulge class of 30 places and 30 further places in both years 8 and 9.
A further 70 places would be created at Aldersley High School, with an additional year 7 bulge class of 30 places and 20 extra places in both years 8 and 9.
Extra places would also be created at St Matthias School in Deansfield and Bilston CE Primary School from the start of the new school year in September to accommodate rising demand.
