Emergency services were called to Abingdon Street in Derby

Reports of a suspicious item in a garden led to the evacuation of some homes in Derby on Monday night, police have said.

Officers were called to a property in Abingdon Street at 17:45 BST.

The road was cordoned off between the junctions of Addison Road and Hawthorn Street and a "number of residents" were evacuated from their homes as a precaution, the force added.

The Army's explosive ordnance disposal team was called and a lithium battery was disposed of safely, officers said.

The road was reopened at about 20:30.
