An investigation is under way after a man in his 70s died in a house fire.

Firefighters were called to Cranwell Drive in Burnage, Manchester, at 16:40 BST on Thursday.

Crews from three stations in Withington, Whitehill and Stockport attended and were on scene for about two-and-a-half hours, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) said.

Greater Manchester Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident."

GMFRS said the fire was extinguished using hose reel jets and a gas detector.

So far there have been no reports of any other casualties, the police added.
