Trains cancelled after fire near track

Trains have been cancelled after a fire near railway tracks.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had received a large number of calls to an incident on Colthrop Lane in Thatcham on Monday evening and that crews were on the scene.

In posts on local Facebook groups, residents reported hearing "explosions" coming from the site of the blaze.

Great Western Railways said it had been informed of the incident, and that it had closed the nearby tracks, with no trains travelling through the area for the rest of the evening.

The railway operator added that long distances services between London Paddington and the West Country would be diverted, whilst trains between Reading and Newbury had been suspended.
