Girl, 12, dies after being hit by bus in Kilwinning

A 12-year-old girl has died after being hit by a bus in Ayrshire.

Emergency crews were called to Lauchlan Way in Kilwinning after the incident, which happened at about 13:10.

Police Scotland said the girl, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force said inquiries were ongoing and asked for anyone with information to contact officers.

The road was closed for almost 10 hours while an initial crash investigation took place.

Sgt Stewart Taylor said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the girl who died at what is an extremely difficult time for them."
