Emergency services were called to the multi-vehicle crash on the M1 on Tuesday evening

A "serious" multi-vehicle crash partially closed the M1 in Leicestershire.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the motorway, between junctions 23 and 23A, at about 19:30 BST on Tuesday.

National Highways East Midlands described the crash as serious and added it had resulted in a vehicle fire.

Both carriageways of the motorway were closed, but two lanes of the southbound route have since reopened. Highways England added that specialist contractors and recovery vehicles were on their way to the scene.
