Entrepreneur Dave Fishwick, who inspired Netflix's Bank of Dave film, has said he was "shocked" council workers threw his bin into the back of a wagon, and drove off.

In a video captured on CCTV and posted on Facebook, he wrote: "I was shocked! the bin wagon came to collect our rubbish today, then threw the whole bin in the back, quickly jumped into their truck, and drove away, saying, 'go, go!' Please can you return my bin?"

Ribble Valley Borough Council said that his bin was broken, and he was due to get a new one.

Fishwick said he was not informed of his need for a new bin, and asked why the council did not drop a note explaining the situation into his letterbox.

'The council stole my bin'

In the post, which has had more than a million views, he added that he was thankful that he regularly shreds his waste, and warned others to do the same so that their important information couldn't be stolen by possible bin thieves.

Councillor Stuart Hirst, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council's community services committee, said: "The bin was damaged and couldn't be lifted into the bin wagon using its lifting equipment.

"The collection crew took the damaged bin away and a replacement bin will be delivered to Mr Fishwick today, for free.

"Ribble Valley Borough Council is the only council in Lancashire to carry out weekly general rubbish collections, and one of very few in the country that provide free replacement bins and free garden waste collections."

Fishwick started Burnley Savings and Loans in 2011, a story popularised in Netflix biopic Bank of Dave.

He was awarded an OBE in the King's Birthday Honours list in June for services to finance, business and to charity.
