Work to fix 'persistent' sinkhole starts
Lincolnshire County CouncilWork to fix a persistent sinkhole issue has begun after a "complex" investigation.
Lincolnshire County Council said it had examined underground utilities and drainage to find out why sinkholes have been reappearing on Enterprise Way in Pinchbeck, near Spalding.
The local authority said the road would be closed until 26 June to carry out repairs.
Ashley Behan, the council's traffic manager, said: "This is a complex piece of work and, given the history of issues at this location, it's important that we take the time to fully understand and resolve all of the underlying causes."
The local authority said the most recent explorations had been carried out over a wider area than previous investigations, and new reasons for the sinkholes have been identified.
The council said the work currently taking place had been informed by these new findings.
Behan said as well as fixing its own drainage issues, the local authority was also working with Anglian Water to "put in place a lasting solution".
He added: "Our priority is to repair the causes properly, ensure the network is stable, and avoid a repeat of this issue in the future."
He apologised for the disruption and asked road users to allow extra time for their journeys.
