Pumpkin mosaic of national treasure set to be unveiled

A giant pumpkin portrait of a mystery celebrity is set to be unveiled after weeks of planning and construction.

The attraction at Sunnyfields Farm in Totton, Hampshire, has used more than 10,000 pumpkins to create its annual mosaic artwork.

Last year's portrait, which featured the late Ozzy Osbourne, broke the Guinness World Record for largest cucurbita mosaic at 212 m sq (2,281 sq ft).

Sunnyfields' bosses hope to break the record again in 2026, and the identity of this year's mystery subject will be revealed during a livestream on the BBC News website on Tuesday at 18:00 BST.

Thomas Nelson, director of Sunnyfields Farm, said: "Sometime in August we ask the public what they want to see on the pyramid and quite soon it's clear what they do want.

"In the background we throw some ideas around and then we hand it off to our artist, Andrew Bega, and he makes it look good."

The annual artwork marks the start of the farm's immersive Pumpkin Time.

Founded by Nelson's parents in 1990, the farm has shown off its pyramid display for the past 10 years and entered the record books in 2023 for the largest mosaic created from squashes.

Previous designs include Paddington Bear, The Nightmare Before Christmas and the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne – which was visited by his family in the months after his death in 2025.

And Sunnyfields is opening itself up for a challenge.

"We do keep beating our own record so there's a challenge out there," it said.

"Come on other pumpkin farmers - you need to get your act together and give us a challenge."
