The playgrounds in Gamesley have been fully refurbished

Three play areas in a village in Derbyshire have been refurbished following a £250,000 investment.

The works in Edale Close, Centurion, and Cottage Lane in Gamesley, near Glossop, were funded by a grant from High Peak Borough Council.

Modern apparatus have been installed at the playgrounds, which now have better accessibility. Outdoor fitness equipment was also installed at Cottage Lane.

Damien Greenhalgh, deputy leader of the council and executive councillor for regeneration, tourism and leisure, said: "We know Gamesley's play areas have been crying out for some TLC, so I'm absolutely delighted that we've been able to give not just one, but all three a fantastic make-over in one big bang."

The refurbishments have been delivered through the council's play investment and delivery plan.

Greenhalgh said: "It's fantastic to see that investment making a real difference, and I can't wait to see these modern, inclusive, attractive spaces buzzing with families enjoying them."

Anthony McKeown, leader of the council and councillor for Gamesley, added: "It's great to see our investment plans leap off the page from strategy to reality with these improvements to local play areas.

"I'm particularly pleased to see the improvements at Cottage Lane providing equipment not just for fun, but to improve your health as well."
