Library to reopen after seven-month refurbishment

A Grade II listed library which has been closed for seven months for a major refurbishment will reopen to the public next week, it has been confirmed.

Ilkley town centre's library and visitor information centre has moved back into the Victorian building and will be open on Monday, according to Bradford Council.

During the work, the library was running from temporary accommodation at Ilkley Town Hall.

The council said that visitors would see changes such as new accessible toilets and better lighting and heating, while a new kitchen for community groups and organisations using the space had also been added.

A council spokesperson said: "The refurbishment has been designed to create a more welcoming, comfortable and accessible environment for residents, visitors and community groups."

Councillor Ian Walker, executive member for neighbourhoods and communities, said the authority was "delighted" the building was going to be re-opening.

"We look forward to welcoming everyone back," he said.

"The improvements have created a brighter, warmer and more accessible space for our customers and community groups.

"We'd like to thank everyone for their patience and support while the refurbishment work has been taking place."
