People are being urged to close their internal doors to prevent fire spreading, after a blaze in a Ludlow home.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the property on Rock Lane, Ludlow, at 10:42 BST on Monday, where a fire had spread from a small shed to the home's conservatory and into the living room.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said a man and a woman were assessed on scene but had no injuries and were discharged.

"A living room door which had been closed after the fire started significantly reduced smoke damage throughout the property and helped prevent further fire spread," the fire service said.

"A simple action such as closing a door can make a huge difference in protecting lives and property."

Crews attended from Ludlow, Church Stretton, Leominster, and Leintwardine, and spent much of the day damping down and reinspecting the site for hotspots.

The fire was stopped before it spread to the rest of the house and to neighbouring homes.

The service also urged people to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their properties.
