City road shut as fire causes large clouds of black smoke

A city centre road has been closed due to a commercial industrial fire which is causing large clouds of black smoke.

South Wales Police said it was at the scene of the incident on Dyfatty Street in Swansea on Saturday afternoon.

The force said the road has been closed from Dyfatty Street to Orchard Street and Newhall Road, adding that there was a lot of smoke.

"Please avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible," a South Wales Police spokesperson said.

Torsten Bell, MP for Swansea West, posted on X: "I'm concerned there appears to be a fire in central Swansea in the city church area - advisable to stay away until it's clear what's going on.

"I'm contacting the emergency services and council and will be follow the situation closely. Stay safe."
