'Menace to society' jailed for sexual assault of teenager
PA MediaA persistent criminal described as a "menace to society" who carried out a sexual assault on a teenage girl in Aberdeenshire has been jailed.
Colin Yeats, 44, admitted carrying out the assault in Fraserburgh last year, a month after being released from prison.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Summers said Yeats had taken advantage of the 15-year-old girl's state of intoxication.
"You have an atrocious criminal record," the judge said, jailing Yeats for two years.
Advocate depute Chris Jones told the court Yeats' record included multiple convictions for drug offences, road traffic crimes, and breach of court orders.
He was released from jail on licence in June last year after serving a sentence for a drugs conviction.
He then carried out the sexual assault in a toilet cubicle the following month.
The court heard he had spent 45 days back in the community before committing the offence.
The advocate depute said the girl later made "distressed disclosures" to people close to her about what had happened, and a relative found her crying in her bedroom.
The judge acknowledged Yeats' latest crime was his "first episode of sexual offending".
He told him: "Nevertheless, your record suggests you are a menace to society."
The judge said Yeats would have faced a sentence of three years, but it would be reduced to two years due to his guilty plea.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register.
