Plans for more than 100 homes next to hospital site
Building Design GroupPlans have been lodged to build more than 100 homes and a care home next to a hospital in Staffordshire.
A planning application for the housing estate, on land west of Sir Robert Peel Hospital in Mile Oak, near Tamworth, has been submitted to Lichfield District Council.
If given the go ahead, the development would see up to 130 homes and an 80-bed care home built on the site, which would be accessed from the B5404 Watling Street.
The applicant said the site was in sustainable location with access to public transport and nearby services and proposals would help meet local housing demand.
'Grey belt land'
Planning papers state 43% of the homes would be classed as affordable housing, while the development would also include public open space, along with pedestrian and cycle routes.
Buildings on the site were expected to range from two-storey houses to apartment blocks of up to four storeys high, with a mix of terraced, semi-detached and detached homes proposed.
The site currently consists of grassland and scrubland with mature trees and hedgerows along its boundaries.
Planning consultants said although the site was within the green belt, the council said it could be considered "grey belt" land because it makes only a "minor contribution to green belt purposes".
