Joe Lycett donates costumes for museum collection
Doug Peters / AlamyComedian Joe Lycett has donated a number of his costumes to Birmingham Museums as part of a permanent collection.
The items include a Queen Elizabeth I-style gown he wore to the BAFTAs in 2024.
"As humans have done for thousands of years I express myself through the clothes I wear and am overjoyed some of the ridiculous pieces I've modelled over the years will join these historic garments." said Birmingham-born Lycett.
A suit covered in soft toys, a pair of jeans covered with floral embroidery, and an England football kit have also been donated. All the pieces were created for Lycett in collaboration with his stylist Krishan Parmar.
"I was honoured to explore Birmingham Museums' extraordinary clothes and costume archive a few months back and was blown away by the history, inspiration and beauty of some of those special pieces." Lycett said.

Rebecca Unsworth, curator of decorative art at Birmingham Museums Trust, said: "Joe is known for his colourful and playful style, and we're delighted that these garments worn by such a prominent Brummie are now part of Birmingham's collection."
One item of clothing will form part of the "I photograph comedians!" exhibition until 31 May, with all the items remaining part of the city's permanent collection afterwards.
Separately, Joe Lycett's first major solo art exhibition EVERY THING MUST GO, will open at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery in July.
