Man dies and teen seriously injured in M54 crash
National HighwaysA man has died and another has been left with life-threatening injuries after a serious crash on the M54 between Shropshire and Wolverhampton.
The eastbound carriageway was closed between junction three in Albrighton and junction two in Wolverhampton shortly after 04:30 BST on Friday.
A man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene after being discovered inside a black Vauxhall Astra that was found in woodland nearby.
Police said a man in his late teens was also seriously injured in the crash, after being taken from an address in Smethwick by the ambulance service.
The road remained closed on Friday afternoon while Staffordshire Police's investigation continued.
Drivers have been urged to use alternative routes.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "On arrival there was one patient, a man. Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
"Earlier, in the morning, we had been called to an address in Smethwick, to treat a man for serious injuries who had reportedly been involved in a [road traffic collision] on the M54.
"He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for further assessment."
