This week, we focus on a "big day" for Pokémon fans, a national award for hot sauce, and former rugby league star Kevin Sinfield aiming to sell thousands of pairs of socks in aid of motor neurone disease (MND) charities.

Former rugby league star Kevin Sinfield is aiming to sell 7,777 pairs of sports socks as part of his fundraising mission for motor neurone disease (MND) charities.

The Sock It To MND campaign has been launched in support of his seventh and final challenge - dubbed 7 in 7: The Grand Finale. The number pays tribute to his former Leeds Rhinos team mate Rob Burrow, who died in June 2024 after living with MND for four and a half years.

Starting on 27 September and finishing at the Super League Grand Final on 3 October, Sinfield will run an ultra marathon every day for seven consecutive days, visiting all 12 English Super League grounds between Hull and Manchester.

Speaking ahead of his challenge, Sinfield, who has raised more than £11m for MND causes, said: "If we all do a tiny bit, it goes a long, long way."

For most people, Wednesday was just another day - the midweek hump at school or work. But not for Pokémon fans.

The Japanese brand has become one of the most recognisable in the world, with its colourful creatures appearing in video games and on shop shelves across the globe.

But perhaps most synonymous with the Pokémon phenomenon is its trading card game, which has been played, bought and sold between collectors for the last three decades.

Wednesday marked the release of Pokémon's 30th anniversary range - a day one collector described as the brand's biggest day "in the last decade, if not more".

Gus Hall, owner of Evolution Games in Halifax, said he was "massively excited" about the anniversary range.

Designs engraved on Ice Age female figurines were inspired by growth patterns in mammoth tusks, a study has found.

The research looked at 18 "Venus" models discovered in Mizyn in northern Ukraine and thought to be 18,000 years old.

The study by teams at the University of York, University of Stavanger in Norway, and the National Museum of the History of Ukraine, found Ice Age craftspeople carefully observed and mimicked the natural lines of the ivory on the figurines

A chilli-loving young entrepreneur who grew up "putting hot sauce on everything" has won a national award for the spicy business he founded with his brother.

Alex and Tom Ward from Rawmarsh, Rotherham, began experimenting making their own hot sauces in their parents' kitchen after spending six months travelling the world and researching Southeast Asian cuisine.

A year after winning a regional award, Alex, 28, has been awarded the title of Young Trader of the Year at the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF).

Despite some "tough opposition" in the category, Alex admitted he "really wanted to win" and was delighted with the result.

Design images of the north of England's first Brit School-inspired performing arts college have been revealed.

Inspired by the world famous performing arts academy in London, Brit North is set to be built in Bradford city centre after the council sold the land to the Department for Education in February.

The plans were announced in 2023, with the college housed on the site of the former Jacob's Well council building – currently a car park.

According to a planning application, Bradford's designation as UK City of Culture 2025 was a key part in bringing the school to the city, with hopes the project will improve facilities for the arts across the North of England.
