Plans submitted for electric vehicle charging hub

A site currently used as a hand car wash could be turned into an electric vehicle charging hub.

Plans have been submitted to install 10 charging bays on land at Parkway Sports and Social Club on Maskew Avenue in Peterborough.

The company behind the application claimed the development, which would include a pedestrian walkway to Boulevard Retail Park, would provide "significant environmental, social, and economic benefits".

Peterborough City Council planners will consider the application and make a formal decision at a later date.

The site is located just off the A15 dual carriageway, which connects Peterborough city centre to junction 18 of the A47.

Plans for the charging hub include canopies, a substation enclosure and lighting columns, all "sensitively integrated" into the site layout, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The planning document said the development aligned with the government's net-zero plans and would help to "advance the transition away from petrol and diesel vehicles".

"The hub will form part of a regional charging network, providing resilience and capacity," it said.

"By providing accessible charging in a strategic location, it future-proofs the city's infrastructure."
