Public events held about 5,000-home new town

Plans are being worked on for a 5,000-home new town in Devon and the local authority is asking the public to get involved in how the development should look.

Culm Garden Village, planned for near Cullompton, has been designed to have 5,000 homes as well as workspaces, shops, schools, healthcare and leisure facilities.

The latest plans give an idea of "how East Cullompton should look and feel, and what kind of place it should become", according to Mid Devon District Council.

The council said anyone with an interest in the area was welcome to attend a series of events or to take part in a survey.

The Culm Garden Village development is due to be on the other side of the M5 from Cullompton.

Plans were first announced for a major development in January 2017.

Plans are also ongoing regarding the possibility of reopening the old railway station at Cullompton and updating the Cullompton junction with the M5 to increase capacity.

More information on the Culm Garden Village development will be available on Thursday at 18:30 BST at the Hayridge, Cullompton, on 30 September at 19:00 at Kentisbeare Village Hall and on 10 October from 09:30 at the Hayridge, Cullompton.
