Suspects in Scot's murder in Kenya charged over attack on another man
FICOFour men named by police in Kenya as suspects in the murder of a Scottish businessman are to go on trial accused of the violent robbery of another man.
Campbell Scott, from Dunfermline, Fife, was visiting the Kenyan capital Nairobi for a conference last February when he disappeared from his hotel. The 58-year-old's body was found days later in a sack in a forest about 60 miles away from the city.
Bernard Mbusu, Isaac Kinoti Kobia, Evans Muthengi Mutaki and Kelvin Mwangi Njoroge were arrested and appeared in court over his murder earlier this month.
In a separate case, the men have pled not guilty to targeting an American man in an alleged attack at a holiday apartment.
They are accused of attacking the man on 11 April at an apartment block in Mombasa and stealing cash worth around £4,000 (686,500 Kenyan shillings) as well as items including a laptop, mobile phone and jewellery worth a total of about £1,100 (190,000 Kenyan shillings).
The case is due to return to court on 27 May.
The court ruled that the four men could be released on bail of £5,700 (1,000,000 Kenyan shillings).
The charges are not linked to a separate investigation into the murder of Campbell Scott.
Kenya's directorate of criminal investigations directly linked the four men with Scott's death when they announced their arrests earlier this month.
In a statement on social media, police said detectives had arrested "four suspects linked to the murder of a British national and multiple robbery with violence incidents following an intelligence-led, multi-agency operation".
They added: "The arrests follow investigations into a robbery with violence incident involving an American national in Nyali and the earlier reported abduction and subsequent murder of British national Campbell Scott Alistair in February 2025."
Police were unavailable for comment on the status of the investigation into Scott's death, and whether the four men remained suspects in the case.
