Partnership to bring art to Jersey's new buildings
BBCArtists will be involved in the design of new buildings across Jersey under a new partnership announced by ArtHouse Jersey and Ashbe Construction.
The collaboration will see artistic ideas built into residential, commercial and infrastructure projects from the planning stages.
The partnership will operate through Jersey's Percentage for Art scheme, which encourages developers to invest part of their budgets in creative work.
CEO for ArtHouse Jersey, Tom Dingle, said the partnership would "create meaningful opportunities for local artists".
ArtHouse Jersey said it intended to act as an adviser and producer, helping Ashbe to identify suitable artists for individual projects and supporting collaboration between artists, architects and construction teams.
The initiative is intended to open up new paid opportunities for local artists and strengthen the role of creativity in everyday public spaces.
Ashbe Construction managing director Ben Cairney said the company aimed to deliver more than "bricks and mortar".
"Partnering with Arthouse Jersey allows us to bridge the gap between structural excellence and cultural value, transforming the 'Percentage for Art' requirement into a meaningful investment in our island's creative future," he said.
Both organisations said they hoped the collaboration would strengthen the connection between art, place and community, shaping not just how new developments look, but how they are experienced by the people who use them.
